BIODYNAMIC CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY

A gentle, hands-on therapy that engages the body and nervous system to support balance and healing, encouraging relaxation, embodiment and greater wellbeing.

What is Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy?

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST) is a gentle form of bodywork that uses light touch and attentive presence to engage with the body as a whole. Through touch, rather than physical manipulation, the practitioner listens to the body's subtle rhythms and responses, supporting its innate capacity for balance, regulation and health.

THE CRANIOSACRAL SYSTEM

Inside the bony structures of the cranium, spine and sacrum, a protective membrane holds the brain and spinal cord in gently fluctuating cerebral spinal fluid. Together these form the craniosacral system. This system is the first to emerge in embryology, the time before birth, and like the cardiovascular and respiratory system that follow, has its own rhythms and pulse which inform us about the health of the system.

THE NERVOUS SYSTEM

Our brain, spinal cord and wider nervous system are involved in everything from movement and sensation to our responses to stress and rest. BCST works gently with the body and nervous system, creating conditions in which the system can settle and move towards greater balance.

POTENCY & RESOURCE

BCST is based on the principle that the body has an innate orientation towards health — referred to as potency. Our capacity to adapt is also supported by our internal and external resources. Treatment works with these resources rather than imposing change, supporting the body’s own processes and resilience.

EMBODIMENT

BCST is an embodied practice, bringing attention to the experience of the body in the present moment. During a session you may be invited to notice sensations, movements or changes as they arise, helping develop a deeper awareness and connection between body and mind.

TOUCH

Touch in BCST is gentle, still and non-invasive. Rather than manipulating the body, the therapist uses sensitive contact to listen and respond to subtle changes within the system. Touch is informed by an understanding of anatomy, embryology, the nervous system, trauma and pain science.

THE RELATIONAL FIELD

Feeling safe and at ease is central to the work. The therapist offers a grounded, neutral presence and adapts to what is happening in each moment rather than following a fixed protocol. This creates a relational space in which the body has time to settle, respond and reorganise.

Experiencing BCST

Who benefits from BSCT?

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy supports the nervous system and as such can benefit any individual. Whether you are looking for support during periods of stress, change or recovery or dealing with chronic conditions, physical or emotional trauma, it offers the opportunity to slow down, reconnect with the body and support overall wellbeing.

What happens in a session?

Sessions take place fully clothed, usually lying comfortably on a treatment table. Using gentle, still contact at different areas of the body, I listen to the subtle movements and responses within your system. There is no fixed protocol: each session unfolds according to what is present for you that day.

You may experience changes in sensation, temperature, breathing or tension, periods of deep rest, or simply a greater awareness of your body. There is no particular experience you need to have, and you are always encouraged to remain curious about what arises rather than trying to achieve a particular outcome.

About Isabelle

Raised between two cultures, and having since lived in many countries from Kazakhstan to Thailand, I have always been fascinated by the different ways people do things. This curiosity about culture and tradition, language and behaviour gradually — and perhaps simultaneously — revealed the fundamentals of our shared human experience. Over time, this became the fascination.

An unexpected experience of Craniosacral Therapy led me to see that, at the heart of human experience, is the human body — shared by every one of us and speaking its own universal language. As I explored the therapy further came a growing appreciation for the innate intelligence of the body, its remarkable potency and its capacity for healing.

I am now a certified Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy practitioner. I completed my training with Body Intelligence, a member of the International Affiliation of Biodynamic Trainings (IABT), whose Foundation Training is accredited by professional bodies worldwide. I continue to develop my practice through postgraduate study and engagement with current research in the field.
